Xerneas and Ras
This wiki compares two figures who share a place in popular and religious imagination but belong to separate worlds. Xerneas is a Legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation VI, the Life Pokémon and mascot of Pokémon X[^c1]. It is a Fairy-type associated with the giving of eternal life; according to its Pokédex entries, it can share eternal life and slept for a thousand years in the form of a tree before its revival[^c2]. Ras Tafari is the pre-coronation name and title of Haile Selassie I, Emperor of Ethiopia from 1930 to 1974[^c3]. He is the central figure of Rastafari, an Abrahamic religion that developed in Jamaica during the 1930s[^c5], and is regarded by adherents as the messiah of the African race[^c4] and, in the predominant teaching, as God or Jah manifested in human form[^c6].
The two subjects are not part of a single tradition. No scripture, cult, or community unites the Pokémon with the Ethiopian emperor, and the phrase "Xerneas Tafarian belief" does not name a documented religion. The wiki therefore treats the comparison as an analytic contrast rather than as comparative religion. Each figure is described in its own right: Xerneas through the games, films, and Pokédex lore that constitute its canon; Haile Selassie through the historical record of his reign and through the theology and practice of Rastafari.
The comparison is organised around the themes that make the two figures seem comparable. Both are associated with life, death, and renewal; both stand in a defining pair with a counterpart; and both have generated bodies of interpretation. The wiki examines their natures and domains, powers and attributes, narrative roles, iconography, texts, rituals, and the debates surrounding them. It also marks the places where the comparison breaks down — above all in the difference between a fictional creature encountered in play and a historical monarch who became an object of worship.
