Clube Atlético Mineiro
Clube Atlético Mineiro, commonly referred to as Atlético Mineiro or simply Atlético, is a Brazilian professional football club based in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. Founded on 25 March 1908 by 22 students at the Municipal Park bandstand, the club is nicknamed Galo (Rooster) and is known for its distinctive black-and-white vertical striped shirt[^c2][^c3][^c1][^c7]. Atlético is one of the most successful and widely supported clubs in Brazil, with a fan base collectively known as A Massa.
The club has won three Campeonato Brasileiro Série A titles (1937, 1971, 2021), two Copa do Brasil trophies (2014, 2021), and one Copa Libertadores (2013), along with a record 50 Campeonato Mineiro state championships[^c4][^c5][^c6]. Its home stadium is the Arena MRV, inaugurated in 2023, with a capacity of 44,892[^c8]. For 57 years prior, the club played at the Mineirão, one of Brazil's most iconic venues.
Atlético Mineiro's principal rivalry is with Cruzeiro, contested in the Clássico Mineiro, one of Brazilian football's most heated derbies. The club's organized supporters, led by the Galoucura fan group, are known for creating an intense matchday atmosphere. In 2024, Atlético converted to a SAF corporate structure, and in 2026 the Menin family injected R$530 million, raising their stake to 83.5% of the club.
